2022/23 Pass Price

On April 25, 2022, the Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement (JEPA) Committee approved the FY 23 budget for the Ross Valley yellow bus program and set the pass price at $515 per one-way pass on all routes. This equates to $2.86 per trip. The pilot promotion for the late departing discounted routes will no longer be in effect with all one-way passes now sharing the same price-point.

New in the 2021/22 school year was the implementation of the $100 pass price for income qualified families. This turned out to be a success because we were able to distribute 40% more income qualified passes to families in need of school transportation! We thank the JEPA board, which comprises representatives from the Town of San Anselmo, Town of Fairfax, County of Marin, and Ross Valley School District, for making this opportunity available!

Program Funding

Upon finalizing the FY 23 budget, contributions from the program’s various benefactors have increased across the board. The pie chart below reflects next year’s budgeted ratio of contributions. We are thankful to our contributors and YOU, the yellow bus rider families, for your continued support in making this program a success.

2022/23 Route Adjustments

In an effort to maximize our available resources in facilitating student transportation, we are making adjustments to afternoon routes at White Hill Middle School that will go into effect at the beginning of next school year.  Below are the key changes:

  • The route schedules will be updated with slight variations to the scheduled stop times.
    • The afternoon route schedules, the accuracy of which depends on daily traffic patterns along Sir Francis Drake Blvd, are approximate. We will update route schedules based on the data gathered from various resources and the feedback provided by bus drivers and yellow bus rider families.
    • WH-16 will start at 3:35 PM.

  • WH-11, which ends in Fairfax, will no longer operate.
    • Instead, WH-12 will depart the school immediately after the bell, stopping in Fairfax before proceeding on to Butterfield Rd and ending at San Anselmo Hub and Red Hill Ave & Sequoia Dr. It is our hope that this route will provide more families with more destination options depending on after-school activities throughout the week.

When do passes go on sale?

UPDATE 5/16/22: The White Hill bus pass lottery is now closed.  After registered families are awarded their routes we will open up the remaining bus passes for non-lottery families.  The date is TBD.

Hidden Valley bus passes will go on sale on May 23 at 9:00 AM.

Ross Valley Charter will go on sale when the remaining White Hill passes are made available for purchase to non-lottery families.  The date is TBD.

We are continuing the tradition and opening the lottery registration on May 2, 2022.  Similar to the previous year, families interested in acquiring a bus pass will need to register for the lottery by submitting an online form.  Within this form, families can select up to three preferred routes for the morning and afternoon.  Route information and schedules can be found here: https://rossvalleyschoolbus.com/pages/routes-stops

Lottery Registration open from 9:00 AM on May 2 through May 13, 2022

After the form is submitted, families will receive a confirmation with a two-letter code that represents their placement on the lottery priority list.  After the lottery registration closes on May 13, 2022, staff will begin awarding passes based on the selected preferred routes on the registration form as well as each family’s placement on the lottery priority list.  Staff will communicate the results of the lottery to all registered families by May 31, 2022, regardless of the results.  Please be patient while we navigate through this process.

More information regarding the lottery, including guidelines and the pre-published two-digit priority list can be found at https://rossvalleyschoolbus.com/pages/2022-23-whms-bus-pass-lottery.
